Accommodation.

typical resident's room

Southerndown Home was built in 1890 and is a magnificent building set on a cliff top on the Heritage Coastline. It is situated in rural surroundings. The residents have breathtaking views of the Bristol Channel and enjoy the sound smell and sight of the sea.

The interior is attractively and comfortably furnished to create a homely atmosphere. There are 24 single rooms and 8 double rooms. Some of these bedrooms are on the ground floor. There is a lift to the upper floor. We have three large and comfortable lounge areas and a dedicated activities room, which allow plenty of space for all and for entertainment.

Residential Care.

Southerndown Home has places for 40 residents and specialises in accommodating visually impaired people. Each resident is assessed for their care needs and an individual care plan developed.

The Home is visited regularly by local doctors, district nurses, chiropodists, dentists, opticians and hairdressers. Religious needs are also catered for. Visitors are encouraged and welcomed - we have visitors' rooms available.

Activity Programme

Our extensive programme of entertainment and activities is continually developing and each resident has a personal profile prepared to allow suitable activities in a group or on a one-to-one basis to take place. Our aim is to provide a stimulating and fulfilling environment.

The programme includes rehabilitation work to help with mobility and independence.

We are also luck to have a Multi-Sensory Room which visitors are welcome to use with their family and friends at any time.

Activities take place in our dedicated activities room and include art, music and movement, bingo, reminiscence etc. In addition to these daily activities are a variety of events and outings planned throughout the year.
